Eugenio Cuttica is one of the great representatives of Argentine contemporary art and an active member of the so-called Intermediate Generation that revolutionized the pictorial scene in the 1980s. During that time, Cuttica was a prominent protagonist in what was called "the return of painting", a trend that had a global expansion acquiring different names, such as "Transvanguardia" in Italy, or "Wild Painting" in Germany.
Eugenio has been exhibiting internationally for more than 40 years in galleries, museums and cultural centers in Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile, Rio de Janeiro, Bogotá, Amsterdam, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Indianapolis, and Shanghai, to name a few. From early in life he knew that shape, color and light were the vessels which would take people to a deep journey into the inner worlds of their spirit. He believes that every artwork should be at least the size of a door for the viewer to be able to pass through and be immersed by the experience. With his large dimensional works, he invites everyone to reconnect with the awareness of what is presented upon them, based on a strong imprint of synchronicity and connection to what he calls "the infinite frequency of no time dimension".
Eugenio Cuttica: Color Field Studies will have its US premiere at Art on Paper New York, 2023.
“They are paintings that arise from emotions. I create an accident on purpose to avoid virtuosity, because I believe that skill is not art, but rather being alert to what is happening. The accident puts us in the present, because it has to be resolved. When things get too easy, they become frivolous art,” Cuttica notes.
